There are several myths surrounding memory care, the specialized attention for individuals with memory impairments, such as Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. It’s important to debunk these myths to promote a better understanding of memory care by providing accurate information to help families find the right level of care at the right time for their loved ones.
Living in Memory Care Neighborhoods does not take away the independence of those living with dementia. Our Neighborhoods are designed to empower the person living with dementia. We focus on remaining abilities versus what they are no longer able to do. Our engagement opportunities throughout the day provide purposeful activity for whole person wellness. Our Memory Care team gathers a lot of information to personalize the environment and meet the personal needs of every resident. Residents can engage in events and social interactions that are in line with their personal interests.
Dementia does not discriminate! This disease isn’t something that only touches the lives of the elderly. We are seeing cases affecting people of younger ages as well. There are no restrictions for the age of people who may benefit from memory care. Our residents often see an improvement in their overall health and wellness after moving to our Neighborhood. Dementia can cause a person to isolate themselves from others. In our Neighborhood, they receive the socialization that is so important to their overall health. We set up a care plan that focuses on maintaining and strengthening current abilities.
As the Memory Care Director at Rock Creek Senior Living, I hope this information helps provide a better picture of an Arrow Memory Care Neighborhood.
