Rock Creek Senior Living Prepares for Warmer Weather

Category: Senior Living

Author: Robert Gilbert, Plant Operations Director

As our homes go through the freeze and thaw cycles, it is important that we take valuable and proactive steps to prevent issues. Due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, the northern hemisphere begins to see the winter-scape come back to life with daffodils blooming, grass greening, and temperatures warming during late March into early April. As exciting as that can be, so many things need to be done to prepare for the warmer season, including spring cleaning, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors tested, and filters changed.

I start by checking all the outdoor patio furniture and rockers. I will make sure they are all sturdy and tighten any loose fasteners, as well as give everything a good cleaning. I will take stock of everything that has accumulated over the winter, to see what I can get rid of, to make room in all the mechanical rooms. I also make plans to have the landscape provider come out and get my irrigation system prepped and ready to go.

Preparing early helps to reduce clutter and gives you a clean starting point for the season. As you prepare and declutter you will also notice anything you are lacking, which gives you time to get those items ordered. I also have my HVAC system cleaned and serviced, so it will be ready for the change in season.

Healthwise, I have my yearly physical, so I am made aware of any issues that are present or could possibly arise that would affect my performance. This allows me the opportunity to make any adjustments needed to reduce the chance of any future health issues and make changes in my exercise regimen or eating habits.

Before you break out the patio furniture and start planting your gardens, you might want to be like the experts at Rock Creek Senior Living and get your home ready for a headache-free season.
