Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word to guide my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at Rock Creek Senior Living in Ankeny, Iowa, the start of a new year provides an opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. This word serves as an anchor, influencing how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed at how much my Word of the Year shaped the past year.
My Word of the Year for 2024 was consistency. At the beginning of the year, our community faced significant changes, including staff transitions and shifting priorities. Consistency became the foundation for achieving stability and harmony during this period of adjustment.
This word guided my decisions and strengthened relationships. It also supported my personal and professional growth. At Rock Creek, our team prioritized clear communication to ensure we consistently delivered exceptional service to both residents and staff. By committing to a steady, reliable approach, we fostered trust and dependability within our community. Consistency allowed us to create a strong, supportive environment for everyone.
The lessons from 2024 have greatly influenced my goals for the coming year. With consistency now firmly established, the focus in 2025 will shift toward fostering joy while maintaining our high standard of service. By integrating this new focus, I aim to create an even more vibrant and positive environment for our community.
For 2025, my Word of the Year is harmony. This word reflects my intention to create balance and joy within our work while continuing to deliver exceptional care. Harmony will guide me in blending professionalism with warmth, ensuring every member of our community feels valued and supported.
